Long Lost Blogger
Oh My Goodness I have neglected this blog. I need a kick in the pants to get started. I have 6 dining room chairs to make slipcovers for. Have had the chairs since Christmas. Just starting on them now. Yah. Now. What;s my problem? No clue. Bad case of no-drive I guess. I have everything I need. And I need to get these chairs out of the way to start on MY own projects. Cuz I need another one right? Yah well I got these awesome wing chairs at Goodwill over the weekend. Hopefully they are the push I need to get my butt motivated & moving!
wish me luck
or not

I am SO excited too!
And you know what??? The one & only "tool" that I don't have on thier tools & materials list is a yardstick. Can you belive that? A yardstick. All these years of sewing & quilting & I DO NOT have a yard stick. Ha, Ha, Ha.
My plate is a little full inthe next few weeks. So I likely won't start anything new until the CLASS starts.
Yay!

Heavy Sigh ! OMHeck! Life is SO busy!!
Well, it's been eons since I have even TOUCHED anything upholstery or slipcover related. THAT is fixin to change my friends! I am geared up & ready to go! As soon as I return from Autin TX that is. Daughter #1 put her house up for sale after securing a job in Austin, it sold in 4 days. I am driving with her to help her move. Daughter #2 (after graduating in May with her masters degree in Speech Language Pathology) secured a job about an hour and a half away. SHE moved on the weekend of the 14th (Sept). We did that moving too! I am getting too old for this you know! I have bought an industrial walking foot sewing machine Juki L153 I think. I don't feel like running down stairs to figure it out! And I bought a 5 thread Wilcox & Gibbs serger. I am set to go on the upholstery & slipcover adventures. I also have a small air compressor & a small pnuematic stapler that I bought from an upholstery supply house. I even bought a button maker! Turns out that you CAN NOT use a snap press for the button dies to make covered buttons. Oh Well. More toys!

Project #2
****this project has been cancelled***
I got the dust cover off it & started removing the legs & staples & the whole underside of this chair is chipboard plywood. I can't fill the holes & when I remove staples the chipboard just makes huge craters ...Just not worth my $$$ & time to re-do it. I will cannibalize the down cushion & maybe the seat springs. Other than that? I'll trash it later this week.
This upholstery/slipcover project #2. I am going to strip this chair & upholter it in a khaki colored twill. I will not put piping on anything as I plan on making a slipcover for it too! The slipcover will have piping.
This is the front view - I already took the cushion off & have all the fabric disassembled & hope to have the cushion done tonight. The back cushion is connected to the back part of the chair. I don't like that & it won't be like that when I am done with it. It is also filled with DOWN. I told Prince Charming I didn't know what I'd find under there ... He said FEATHERS. Thanks babe. I meant like if they are in some sort of pillow case or what...We shall see. It is a pretty large chair I sits really comfortably. I got it from a yard sale in Brentwood. I don't know if the legs were wiggly when I bought it or if I did that moving by myself.
Side view. It's up on a whole peice of plywood on sawhorses. The folding table I worked on the last time is too small & too low. This one might be too tall. Again. We shall see.
That's Prince Charming's HUGE tool box behind the chair. And clamps...do you see the clamps on the left of the photo? Lemme tell you, those jobbies come in super handy!
I am taking this one slower. Obviously because I am doing it TWICE. I have a couch in storage that I got for free. It's white. But when I get done with it??? The slipcover will match the slip I do on THIS chair. Bet you can't guess what color the slipcovers are going to be???? It's a color WAY out of my box.
TURQUOISE
Yep! Got it 50% off from Joann's.
Stay tuned

Next Project? Maybe!
This is a set of chairs that I bought off craigslist this week. I think this BASEMENT lighting aptly represents the brown velour on these chairs! Isn't it just terrible? They are sturday & sit real nice too. I am tentatively planning on stripping all the fabric & then painting them with a black chalk paint and then reupholstering them in a black & white toile. No tufting!
Stay tuned.

TaDa! The feet I ordered are not IN yet...it used to have rocker rails, but I am not putting htem back on.
Day Four - 1st Re-Upholstery Project
This picture shows where I am pinning the welt (piping) to the arm front
Fitting the right arm on.
Right arm pulled & stapled into place.
Another view of the 2nd arm.
This phont is actually out or sequence...but it shows the arm pulled to the back but not secured in any way. It's sort of scary at this point.
